What to do in Sardinia

Our project #OUTOFLANGA bring us in Sardinia, island known mainly for its endless and wild beaches and its crystal clear sea. Normally the car is used to reach the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia, but we suggest an alternative vehicle, the MTB.

Vacation in Sardinia where to go: Sant’Antioco – Porto Pino

This year we have chosen to ride in the south west of Sardinia, starting from Sant’Antioco. We rented ebike on EbikeSardinia; from their site we took inspiration for the route to do and rented two eBike fronts. As a route we have chosen Sant’Antioco – Porto Pino A / R

Price: 30€/bike

Details: Sant’Antico – Porto Pino in eMTB

Length: 60 Km – Altitude gap: nothing

Difficulty: Easy – Suitable for everyone, even children

Duration: 4 hours. We left at 945 and returned at 6 pm (lunch break and bath on the sea)

Battery: 40%

The track can be found here, on WIKILOC

Our experience

Before leaving, we recommend two bottles of fresh water in your backpack (during the ride we will meet bars to buy more fresh bottles).

Departed from Sant’Antioco, the first KMs are on asphalt along the cycle path that ends after about 5 Km. Turn right, cross a small bridge and dive into a path in the middle of a thick reed on the right and on the left the Saline that will accompany us for many KMs. In the first section the vegetation is luxuriant and thick and you have to pay attention to the thorns (a couple of km). After that continue on the dirt road that runs along the salt pans until you reach the sea. In some sections you will have to go down and push because you pass through the sand. In total there will be 5/6 minutes of portage.

Saline Sant’Antioco e Fenicotteri rosa in Sardegna

The salt pans that accompany us along this first stretch give the opportunity to see and admire the pink flamingos, the seagulls and unique panoramas: we were lucky because some salt pans were pink, a color that contrasted the white of the salt mountains.

Short break at the bar (coffee and 2 bottles of fresh water each) and then set off for Porto Pino pedaling through the vineyards. The road crosses the Carignano vineyards and then reaches Porto Pino, the final stop.
