After three weeks of rain and a variable week, we pulled out our MTB to go back over a trail traced a year ago .(see post).

As we expected, we encountered little mud and this allowed us to make a nice round of about 30 km in the middle of the vineyards and some woods. The route runs between Vezza d’Alba and San Damiano d’Asti, and, unlike the classic Roero which has many woods, single tracks and fortresses, this area has sweet hills, planted with vineyards and orchards of various kinds.

The trail is suitable for everyone, very pedalable and has no particular difficulty. It is an excellent alternative to the lower Langa and can also be pedaled in winter.

It is a ring route to eight, where the center is Priocca and you go up to San Damiano d’Asti, Magliano Alfieri (where you can make a stop at the castle) and Castagnito.

A short video to tell you about our experience.

What to do in Roero?

Its is a different landscape than Langhe and is a perfect addition to your holidays and weekends in this magnificent area of Langhe & Roero, a UNESCO heritage site. Short references and refer to the next article for all information.

  • Rocche: in the rolling hills typical of the Roero, deep ravines open ……..
  • borghi antichi:  they are 8 ..
  • Local food! Roero is above all a homeland of taste, both for the typical Roero and Roero Arneis wines, ……..
  • Il Roero dei Santuari e delle Chiese: In the roero there are many churches ……
  • Castelli: in the Roero hills there are towers, medieval castles ……

Obviously these places are all reachable by car, but also with MTB or eMTB: in this case entrusted to a MTB guide to know the nature of Roero from inside.
